June is Men’s Health Awareness Month

Biorasi  conducts life-impacting drug studies for Men’s Health; now, if they only showed up to the Doctor.

Biorasi is taking the opportunity in June, Men’s Health Awareness Month, to encourage men and their loved ones to take a closer look at daily health practices. As a leading CRO tuned into all aspects of health research and treatment;we are as committed as our leading pharmaceutical sponsors to the well-being and lives we impact.

Research shows:

  • men do not see physicians for a physical exam nearly as often as women
  • men are more likely to be uninsured than women
  • approximately 30,000 men in the US die each year from prostate cancer
  • men are dying of the top causes of death at higher rates than women

As a small, unofficial, social experiment I decided to ask a few of my colleagues (spoiler: they’re men) about the “last time” they went to a doctor’s office. Here are a few responses:

  • I don’t know, I don’t have time for that.
  • The last time my wife made me.
  • I really don’t know, why, do I need to go?

While I did anticipate the type of responses I would receive, I was surprised to see just how inline they were with other men’s health material which showed much larger groups of men citing very similar reasons. Women are taught responsibility for their own healthcare early on and the practice is  evidenced by the consistency with which women undergo a Well Woman Check-up every year. Men on the other hand, are not always pushed to be as invested in their own health. This common social practice is not only unfortunate but dangerous.

Biorasi works hard to conduct studies for life impacting drugs geared towards health and wellness for men. Drug study activity in Oncology, Diabetes, Central Nervous System and other indications is growing rapidly; especially in the biosimilar space where mechanisms of action are geared to address the underlying disease state rather than to mitigate or mask symptoms.

Public health leaders are taking notice and making a push to change practices and thus improve health  outcomes. Many states, including Florida, have designated next week as National Men’s Health Week as part of the Men’s Health Awareness Month in June. Biorasi is on board. Are you?
